So my buddy John and I are notorious for sharing odd youtube videos we find to each other on myspace. Well I came across one today that I really must post about. I’m a big fan of the 80’s, and pro wrestling…but this is all kinds of wrong.

For a class I had just recently read Scott McLoud’s article, “Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art.” First and foremost I must point out that it’s not a typical read. It’s an article written about how comics are important to our social understandings, only done in comic form. There was so much information present, here. The choice of a comic layout helped to allow for better understanding of the subject matter. The whole piece goes on to explain how we are generally an icon based society. Most of our information input is done from icons and cartoons found all around us at all times. The use of icons and cartoons allow for a large understanding since many people can associate more with a crude picture than the written word or a highly detailed image. This is something that I’ve always known, but I suppose never realized. The simpler the image, the more involved the viewer will be toward that image. This article proves itself by its own layout. The comic form of it allows for an easier comprehension of the subject of understanding simple cartoons. It is a well written and well illustrated piece that has made me think some more about cartoons in general. This is one article I’ll be sure to store considering how interesting it makes something as childish as comics seem like it’s constantly evolving and teaching people….I suppose it’s not just kid stuff.

Wow, just some information I just learned. It turns out that Ben Chapman, the original Creature from the Black Lagoon has died. I’m a big horror film fan, and regularly I attend a horror convention in Cherry Hill, NJ known as Monstermania. Well Ben was supposed to attend but 2 days ago cancelled because of his health. Now I see it took a turn for the worse. This is pretty sad news considering most of the original Universal Monsters from the 30’s have all passed away. Chapman was one of the last living actors of the time. Rest In Peace Ben Chapman.
Yep, that’s the name of the concert I just got back from. I went with Kyle, Colleen, and Kelly–brothers in my fraternity (we’re a co-ed fraternity…you read the names right). We drove to West Chester, PA for West Chester University. The concert was held in the student center. It’s actually a really nice place. There were about 5 or 6 bands playing, I’m not sure. We only caught 4, but we arrived late and left early. Each band had it’s own individual style. Somethings really got us jumping around, somethings just kept us standing still, somethings just allowed us to relax. Though they were very diverse styles, all were entertaining. I can’t recall names of any of the bands except for the last one we saw. A local band from Allentown, PA did a really good set. Their name was Ritter, and it was probably my favorite performance of the night. I also won some cool stuff. Another band, The Bouncing Souls, was supposed to attend this event but had to cancel. They are a pretty big name around this area so I think they would have been a big draw. Since they couldn’ t make it they donated a bunch of stuff for the cause for a raffle. But so few people put in for the raffle…more luck for me
. I put in 2 tickets for a signed cd, one ticket for a dvd, and one ticket for a hoodie. I wound up winning a cd and dvd. Not a bad deal at all for four bucks. All in all it was a fun night. I still hear a constant buzzing in my ear, but I’m sure it’ll pass in the morning.
While I was on vacation my uncle showed us the video Shift Happens. We saw this video earlier in class and it had a major impact on me. We spoke about the topics in this video and it has opened my eyes to our future in this country and in the world. We need to work harder.
I’m a bit behind on my blogging schedule…The first word processor at Stanford in California was interesting. It is crazy to think of the leaps and bounds made in such short times. When an invention is made technology gets better. When technology gets better, new technology is made at a faster rate. The computer back then had all these fancy buttons and noise makers attached to it. Now a computer, especially a word processor, can be found a cell phone. It makes me wonder what can technology do next?
The reason I’ve been throwing some rapid fire blog posts tonight is that I’m going to be away this weekend. I’m spending the weekend with my friend Tom and Renee, the three of us are going to drive to Washington DC. There’s some anime convention there this weekend. For those who don’t know, anime is japanese cartoons…yea, that’s it in a nutshell. I don’t know much about it. I used to watch this one show DragonBallZ, but other than that I’m kinda clueless. I’m mostly going to spend the weekend with Renee. I think it should be fun though. We’ll see. Hope you guys have a great weekend and had a happy V-Day. Later all.
With increasing technology, we’ve been able to view films pretty much anywhere anymore. It doesn’t have to be in the cinema or at home, but can be taken on the go on many portable devices. I found a video online where film director David Lynch talks about viewing films on the iPhone. It’s short, amusing, and somewhat profane…but I think it’s still great.
Well, as I briefly discussed last Tuesday, I’ve currently been playing Halo 3. That’s not something I’m particularly proud of. I say this jokingly of course. I did however refuse to play this game for the longest time. I refused to give into the hype surrounding this stupid game, opting more for guitar hero or something else I can have fun in. I had tried Halo 2 when it was released, and to be completely frank I am completely terrible at it. Then Halo 3 came out and then the number of people in my life playing it increased. Three people I work with and two of my regular friends picked it up and were all playing online against each other. Then my closest friend Ken decided to buy an Xbox360 and this damn game. Now that more people I was close to decided to pick it up, I felt obliged to. I have a friend at an electronic store who hooked me up. It was on sale for twenty dollars cheaper than retail at his store for a week. I didn’t know about this but Ken told me about it so checked it out. Yea…it was the previous week’s sale. Luckily my friend who works at this store happened to point out that “someone” had left last weeks sale sign up and that I could get it for the cheaper price, but he was going to have to destroy the sign asap (whether I got it or not). So it was crunch time and I finally caved in. To be honest it’s not that bad. I do kind of enjoy it even though I’m terrible still. If anyone playing on Xbox Live reads this my gamertag is OneWhatIf, feel free to invite me to a match.
I am headed to Sand Diego for the weekend. My cousin is getting married and I am flying out to be there. I love wedding and everything they are about. Free drinks, dancing, pretty girls, and nice dress clothes!!!! Can’t beat that…
